It was early one Monday morning when Logan strolled into the Entrance Hall of Hogwarts from the upper floors. He had just been for an emergency meeting with the headmaster of the school, concerning the rumours that the Death Eaters were reforming and had a new leader. The meeting had lasted for only an hour, and the headmaster had promised to contact Logan should any news or gossip arrive within the school walls regarding Death Eater activity. Logan knew very well that the Death Eaters enjoyed targeting students, who they believed to be more easily led than adults. So it made sense for them to come to Hogwarts to spread the word.
But that just made Logan's job more difficult, he considered as he moved across the Entrance Hall towards the great oak doors which had just been opened to allow the students in and out for morning classes. The hum of voices from the Great Hall nearby brought to him breakfast, and Logan's stomach let out a rumbling noise as he realised he had gone without. All he needed was a cup of coffee on mornings like this, to make sure he didn't fall asleep in meetings with important people. Logan's head was turned towards the Great Hall where the smell of pancakes had just hit him, when he collided with another body on account of not looking where he was going. Stumbling to the side a little, Logan quickly regained his posture and raised his head sharply to see who he had just walked straight into ...

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be • JUST AS MESSED UP AS MEBack straight, shoulders back and head held high. That was how this lady walked. There was no need for her to carry herself in any other manner, she knew who she was. Most of all Aphira was proud of her blood, which was what made a witch or wizard. Anything less than pure was scum. Nothing good could come from sharing blood of humans, those weak creatures. Aphira couldn't even take pity on them they were so pathetic. It was just sickening. This was why she must finished out her idol's work. But that would come in due time.
Unlike others who tried to take up the Dark Lord, the Original, trade failed because they all lacked common sense. The best way to eliminate an entire race was through secrecy, not letting others know who is causing the mass murders of those filthy beings. Aphira was the Dark Lady but she needn't shout it for the world to know, not when she was sitting in such a secure place that no one would ever suspect her. It was such a brilliant plan that it wouldn't fail, she was sure of it.
Clicking of her heels soon caught her attention, distracting the woman from her thoughts. The sound filled the deserted corridor, all the kids were either still in bed or in the Great Hall getting some breakfast, which was where Aphira was headed. Of course she would have to change her attitude before entering the hall. She would have to bring out her lovable side, just as she conducted herself everyday. Just because she was the Head of Slytherin house, didn't mean that she was vicious . She knew better than that.
Preparing herself for the day, she wasn't completely paying attention as someone ran right into her. Her face contorted into one of pure anger until she realized who it was. The Minister of Magic. Just as quickly as it came, her anger disappeared and she smiled brightly at the man. "Good morning Minister. I hope I didn't hurt you. You are okay aren't you?" Her face read nothing more than an apologetic facade.

Logan's eyes quickly found who he had run into, and he returned the smile on the woman's face before he had fully registered who it was. It was instinct to smile back at anyone who did so to him, even if he had no idea who they were. Just keep smiling. Yet Logan recognised the woman he had nearly knocked over, and he turned his body to face her with a friendly expression still on his face. She was the Head of Slytherin house, and he had been in a number of meetings with her recently. The meetings had involved all of the Head of Houses and the Headmaster himself, discussing how to best avert the rising threats. Aphira had come up with some good contributions in the meetings, and Logan was glad of that. After all, he had hardly expected the Slytherin Head of House to be so against Death Eaters, but she cared about her students, and that was all there was to it.
"Miss Death wasn't it?" Logan remarked, though he remembered fine well what her name was. The smile still lingered on his lips as he peered behind her into the Great Hall, his mind lost for a moment in the smell of breakfast. "I'm perfectly fine, I hope you are too? My mind was elsewhere for a moment - I'm afraid breakfast always was my favourite lesson here," Logan joked, remembering his school years and how he had enjoyed eating more than he had done learning. Except in Muggle Studies. Being half-blood, it had come easy to come from growing up in that environment.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be • JUST AS MESSED UP AS METhe concern for the Minister was still the expression she wore. But on the inside she chastised herself for not paying attention and for even slipping up slightly by her first reaction of anger, though she was quite sure it went unseen. She knew better, Aphira knew she had to maintain the perfect image, and her releasing her anger at all, let alone on the Minister of Magic, well that would of been fatal.
The Minister was here due to the rumors of there being Death Eaters gathering. The meeting was met with tense feelings, though no one was being overly frightened, which was good, for now. Aphira had done her best to make sure she helped. It was just a way to keep them off her trail, though of course, she gave them no reason to suspect a thing.
Aphira smiled lightly as he referred to her as Miss. Death, it had a certain irony to it that she loved. "Yes, but please, Minister, refer to me as Miss Aphira, or just Aphira. Miss Death is such a morose title that can make others prejudge me. Not that a name really signifies the person. But I would feel more comfortable being addressed by my first name." She was sure that he would agree with the matter, though a bit improper as it was, since the two weren't completely familiar with each other.
Aphira found herself laughing in a light manner. "This mornings meeting had you skipping breakfast, no blame can be placed her.e. Especially when the food is so delicious it would distract the most focused person." Aphira said with a smile. "Why don't you stay for breakfast, I'm sure no one would mind."

Logan nodded his head quickly when Aphira told him to refer to by her first name, and exclude her rather morbid surname (which was especially so at a time like this). "I'll call you Aphira so long as you call me Logan," the man retorted with a smile on his face as he watched the woman before him. He grew a little tired of being called Minister, everywhere he went. Being called by your job title did not give much room for a personality to develop when meeting new people, as he was sure happened with Aphira when people realised her surname was Death.
The informality of their meeting was refreshing for Logan, and he eagerly nodded his head when she suggested staying for breakfast. He glanced back into the Great Hall and noticed that the staff table was quiet, perhaps they wouldn't mind if he ate up there, rather than joining his old house table and looking rather out of place among the Gryffindors. "I can spare a few more minutes," Logan finally remarked, glancing back at Aphira with a cheerful smile as he motioned his his hand towards the doors into the Great Hall. "Do you have a few to spare? I'm sure we have much to talk about," he continued, his smile still fixed on his face as he was used to doing when talking to people. There was much he wanted to know from Aphira that the Headmaster perhaps hadn't been so open to telling him. The way the students felt about current events. How they were acting. How the staff felt. It would be nice to have it from a more friendly perspective, and he had run into the right woman.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be • JUST AS MESSED UP AS MEAphira smiled pleasantly at the minister as he mad an offer she couldn't refuse. For them to be on a first name bases would only secure her position as a good person in his eyes, he wouldn't suspect her in the least when the time came. Plus no one else would dare to accuse her of anything if they saw the two together laughing and talking in such a light manner. "Its a done deal." Aphira said smiling more.
She waited patiently as the man decided that him having some breakfast was better suited for him, then going the whole day without something in his belly. "Of course, Logan I have a more than a few minutes to spare. classes don't start for another hour." They would have much to talk about, Aphira was sure that he was curious about how the school was reacting to the rumors. Just as she was curious about how he felt and this time she wouldn't need Bella's help, his assistant. Aphira walked into the Great Hall and made her way to the front, claiming her seat at the staff table. She motioned for Logan to take the seat next to her, she was sure none of the professors would mind. "Now on which topic would you like to start?" Aphira asked nicely before looking over the options for breakfast this morning.

Logan smiled once more at Aphira as she agreed to his proposal of calling him by his first name too. Although he only knew the woman vaguely, across a meeting room as they tried to work out a new course of action, they were already acting like old friends, which caused Logan to relax a little as he followed the Slytherin Head of House into the Great Hall. When she said that classes weren't on for another hour, he nodded his head slowly. He had lost track of how classes worked these days, they seemed different from when he was here. "It's been seven years since I was Gryffindor Head Boy," Logan remarked with a chuckle remembering his seventh and final year at the school, and how he had almost been fired from his Head Boy position for misbehaving. He had narrowly avoided it though.
Finally reaching the staff table, with Logan smiling at the Gryffindors sat at their table on the way, the Minister took a seat next to Aphira and poured himself some orange juice, quickly drinking and finishing the glass as though he had not been hydrated in years. "Oh yes," Logan finally remarked, lowering his voice a little as he set his now empty glass down and turned to look at Aphira. "What do you think? Do you think they're really back?" Logan questioned, knowing that at a time like this it would be obvious who "they" were unless you had been cooped up in Azkaban the past few weeks.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be • JUST AS MESSED UP AS METhe mentioning of it being such a long time since Logan had been in school had made her think how long had it been since she was an actual student. "Its been eight for me, well since my final year. But then I came back a couple years later, been in a staff position for six years." She remembered that classes use to take place right after breakfast but since students complained a lot they gave in and decided to open the gap, giving students more time to get up and ready. Also it was important to eat breakfast in the morning, which most students were skipping out on due to the lack of time. "The grades have gone up since they allowed more time for students in the morning. So the change has stayed." Aphira informed Logan.
Aphira watched Logan drink the glass of orange juice like he was dying of thirst. He made it look so good that Aphira poured herself a glass, though only sipped it. It was quite ironic having breakfast with the Minister and having him ask her if the rumors about the Death Eaters were true, which of course they were, but she would lie to keep him off her trail. "I'm not sure Logan. I don't want to cause trouble for no reason and then I don't want to look the fool for not believing in time. Its a hard position to be in." Aphira said, it was a wise choice, not deciding. "But the rumors seem to be increasing and the more they do, the more we are going to have to believe them. I would say just be prepared." Aphira stated. It might seem silly to put one's enemies on the alert but what choice did she really have, the more she played this part, the bigger chance of her success.
