A panic stricken Kaelyn had taken to the highest tower of the castle, her eyes still blinking rapidly from being woken up at 2am and her Hufflepuff robes wrapped around her at an odd angle. She had been well into the night when an owl had crashed through the dorm window and landed on her chest, causing her to wake up with a shriek of worry that she was being attacked. But when she saw the owl, she recognised it straight away. It was Valarie's, her friend, who she knew to be a little bit on the wild side, often sending her owls in the middle of the night to surprise her or get her to sneak out with her. But this time the owl carried a different sort of letter. All that was written on it was THE HIGHEST TOWER. NOW. Being such a loyal friend, Kaelyn had sprung out of bed and made her way up through the castle, being careful to avoid Prefects and wandering Professors until she had made it to the highest tower. The night air blew her hair over her face, and Kaelyn frowned a little. What was so wrong that Valarie had needed to see her so urgently?
Leaning over the edge of the tower and peering down at the dark grounds, Kaelyn stifled a yawn and jumped a little when she heard footsteps coming up the stairs to the tower. Spinning around quickly, she let out a little gasp and went to look for a hiding place, fearing that she had been caught out of bed out of hours - but it was too late to run - as the door to the highest tower had just swung open infront of her ...

It was the middle of the night and Valarie laid wide awake in bed. She just couldn't sleep and didn't want to spend her time laying in bed waiting for sleep to come. Why not use the energy to actually do something to become tired. That seemed like the better solution. So quickly and quietly Val grabbed a piece of parchment and scribbled a quick message to one of her good friends. Her name was Kaelyn and sometimes she hated that Kaelyn wasn't in the same house at her, it made it all the more difficult at times like these.
Val had requested that Kaelyn meet her up in the towers, knowing hardly any people looked in that area for students, though teachers should more often. But Val did feel a bit guilty, she was the wild child the one who wasn't afraid to have fun. Kaelyn, on the other hand, was the more responsible one and Val had to make her note sound urgent, as if she was in some sort of trouble. Val wouldn't of had to resort to such a low route but she couldn't go to Kaelyn and persuade her in person to join her. That was something she was always good at, but the distance was harder.
Val dressed quickly in nothing to fancy and headed to the towers. She made her way up the never ending staircase and finally opened the door to see Kaelyn cowering in the corner. "Kaelyn!" Val yelled running over to the girl and giving her a hug. "You actual came." Val said, knowing the whole time she would come due to the urgency of her letter, which she would now have to explain why she wasn't bleeding from her head or having an emotional breakdown.

Kaelyn's mind had been overworking with ideas of who could be heading through the door. It ranged from a Prefect to a Death Eater, but really she should have expected it to be Valarie. After all, she was supposed to be in the tower as her letter said. Kaelyn quickly checked her friend over as she ran towards her, and quickly wrapped her arms around her when Valarie pulled her into a hug. Val had acted like this before, if she was having problems with boys or at home, and she would begin by hugging Kaelyn, probably just for the reassurance. "Of course I came silly," Kaelyn remarked, pulling back from the hug and keeping her blue eyes set on Val, as though checking she was okay. Well she wasn't bleeding or talking about having been attacked, so maybe she had a concussion? That would explain why she was acting so excited.
"Now what's the big emergency?" Kaelyn inquired, tilting her head to the side a little as she waited for Val to reveal why they were here. "I mean I'm no healer - but you don't seem to have a concussion -" the Hufflepuff added with a giggle as she took a hold of Val's face with one hand and pretended to be examining it. "Did something happen?" Kaelyn finally settled on asking, lowering her hand and folding her arms infront of her, knowing that she was usually approached just to be spoken to. She had been called a good listener far too many times, and while she was often lost at giving advice due to a lack of life experiences, she certainly knew how to shut up and listen.

The happiness faded from Val's face and guilt replaced it. She felt bad as soon as Kaelyn started to look her up and down trying to figure out what the urgent reason was. But Val had no specific reason to be here other than that she couldn't sleep and she could count of Kaelyn to keep her company. Though sneaking out at night needed some persuasion on Kaelyn behalf. The girl was scared to death of getting caught out, like that would ever happen. Valarie had been out in the middle of the night without being caught but a handful of times.
Val stepped back from Kaelyn's grip and looked down at her feet. "I'm fine Kaelyn. Nothing is wrong." She paused and looked back up at her friend with apologetic eyes. "I just couldn't sleep. I wanted to get out." Valarie said giving her friend a small smile. Waiting was something Valarie hated, she was waiting for Kaelyn to say something. She didn't want the girl to be mad at her and wondered if she actually might not tolerate her antics tonight. Though Val was sure she might be able to keep her attention from her anger.
"But something did happen today. Do You know that Blake kid. Slytherin and stuck up?" Valarie was sure Kaelyn knew of just who she was speaking of. Kaelyn would be shocked of the story she had to tell her.

And then the truth came out. Part of Kaelyn wanted to throttle Val for tricking her into coming up here, but she understood Val's mischevious side was often too much for the Ravenclaw to handle, and so she let out a giggle. "You got me again," Kaelyn simply remarked, bringing her palm up to her face and pretending to reprimand herself for being so stupid. Now that she knew the real reason they were here, Kaelyn's shoulders dropped a little and she leaned against the edge of the tower, only slightly more relaxed than she had been. They were still out after hours, so she wasn't completely at ease. That ease was not restored when Valarie happened to mentioned the name Blake. It was a name that sent shivers down her spine.
She really did hate that Slytherin more than anything she had ever hated in her life. Even more than burnt toast. Even more than - oh never mind. Kaelyn's face visibly changed as a frown drifted on to her face. "Ugh," Kaelyn vocalised, folding her arms infront of her and shaking her head lightly. "What has the rat been doing now?" the Hufflepuff questioned, raising an eyebrow curiously at what Val would have to say. Maybe it wasn't so bad, them being out after hours. It certainly gave them a quiet place to gossip and catch up.

In the same moment both girls seemed to relax, Valarie became less tense due to the fact that Kaelyn wasn't chewing her head off for tricking her again. "You are just too easy to fool." Valarie said jokingly, she didn't mean that. it wasn't that she was easy to fool, it was the fact that she cared and would go far for her friends. "I can't help it. If you would have just been placed into Ravenclaw when you were sorted, then we could have these late night talks without getting into trouble. This is your fault." Valarie said with mock anger.
"You know I love you, I feel bad about it, but it had to be done. I'm just glad you haven't started hating me for this." She noticed her friend was still tensed and knew the reason behind it.Kaelyn didn't want to get caught, she wanted to keep her squeaky clean image, but that was sort of hard when she was friends with a rebellious girl like Valarie. "I promise we won't get caught, it rarely happens. And if we do, you can stop talking to me. I'll understand." Valarie said, meaning every word of it.
It was clear from Kaelyn's reaction that she knew of the boy, pretty much everyone did by the way he acted. But in her tone there was more, like they personally met. "Well you won't believe this..." Val said, pausing for dramatic affect, "He kissed me."

Kaelyn chuckled as Valarie somehow managed to put the blame on her, a little skill that her Ravenclaw friend had the way with words to do. If she had just killed a man, she would be able to convince you that it was your fault for not stopping her. "Me?" Kaelyn remarked, placing her hand on her heart as though shocked at the accusation. A little gasp emerged from her lips before she giggled when Valarie assured that they wouldn't get caught. But the more she was reassured, the less confident she felt about it. The very fact that they needed to keep reminding themselves they wouldn't be caught was foreboding.
But her mind didn't have long to dwell on what she would say should they run across a Professor when Valarie revealed what she had been wanting to tell her about Blake. Her mouth dropped open and a look of disgust came across her features, as though she had just eaten the earwax flavoured Bertie Botts bean. "No way! Are you okay? You didn't - catch anything did you?" Kaelyn remarked, her face as serious as it could be. Who knew what that Blake kid was carrying. "What happened? Please don't tell me you started it," the Hufflepuff continued, unable to wipe the look of disgust off her face and instead simply standing there with a twisted look as though it was now permanent.

Laughter filled the air, as Kaelyn made her dramatic scene which amused Valarie. The girl could always make her laugh. Valraie and Kaelyn both had that sort of free spirit attitude and both really didn't hold back from expressing themselves. It was all in good fun and Kaelyn knew Valarie wasn't seriously blaming her.
Valarie watched as shock and disgust played across her normally light features. Val has never seen the girl so shocked, though Val was just as taken of guard when it happened. "No I don't have...wait does he have something!?" She exclaimed not knowing if she missed out on some vital gossip information. She started to wipe her lips frantically wanting to get whatever it was off. As she was doing this she heard her friend as if she started it. "Why does it always have to be me who started?" She asked feeling a bit hurt. Though she was one who usually got herself into binds like this, didn't mean she had to always be the culprit. "Technically I started it because I bumped into him, but that wasn't my fault." She said. "It just happened to turn out into an all out war. One he seems to think he has won."
