LESSON R1 -- HEALING POTIONS
the following students should be in this class;
ZMEYETTE CARROW, 3RD YEAR
LUCIEN COLTAIRE, 1ST YEAR

Welcome to Potions! I expect you all to behave while you're in my classroom. You're not a bunch of seven year olds. But you are my students, and while I will offer you all the knowledge I can, you too have to make an effort. House points are available as an incentive to do so by completing all homework I set you! Your final grades depend on it. Remember you may complete the homework at any time through the year, so just because the month is up, the lesson isn't!
So what are Potions you might be asking? Well we classify potions in a number of different ways, and if you turn your textbooks to page 3 you'll see some of the most common ones.
BREW -- liquid mixture made by boiling solids in water.
CONCOCTION -- a mixture of ingredients, simple as.
DRAUGHT -- one serving or portion of a potion.
ELIXIR -- a sweetened aromatic solution for healing.
PHILTER -- designed to enchant or charm the drinker.
POISON -- designed to harm or kill the drinker.
TINCTURE -- a benign medicine preserved in alcohol.
I don't expect you to understand all of them, you'll only come across a few of them until you reach your OWL or even NEWT year. But today we're looking at a specific type of potion - the healing variety. They can be a brew, a concoction, a draught, an elixir, a philter or a tincture. Though not a poison; that wouldn't make much sense. Healing potions cover many uses, including replenishing blood levels, removing bruises, healing burns, curing coughs, regrowing bones and even simply sterilising wounds. So they are the most useful, and perhaps the most commonly used of all potions. For today's lesson we're going to be making burn-healing paste, which when applied evenly over the affected area, will remove a burn in around 30 minutes, depending on the intensity of the burn that is.
So grab your cauldrons, we're going to get our ingredients out! On your desk I've already placed a vial of bundimun secretion. That's going to clean the affected area once it's applied. There's also some powdered ginger root, some aconite and some ground nettles. Follow the ingredients on the board and when you're done collect your final paste in the containers I've given you, write your name on them and leave them on my desk!
1. Add 10g aconite to a boiling cauldron and simmer for 10 minutes
2. Add 5g ground nettles and stir while simmering
3. Stir in a clockwise direction while adding 10ml bundimun secretion
4. Add a sprinkle of powdered ginger root and boil for 2 minutes
5. Bring to the boil and leave to stand for 20 minutes
6. An orange paste will form which can be collected
